Cycling

Status:Active, not currently accepting new members
Group email: Cycling group
When: On Thursdays 10:00 am
Venue: Various

All rides are expected to be mainly on country roads, as quiet as possible and can be anything up to 30 miles.  All members should have a roadworthy bike that fits you well of any type (including electric).  Maintenance of the bike is the individual’s responsibility.

The routes for the main rides, showing distances and whether flat or hilly are sent out by WhatsApp poll.  There is a chat group, which may also be used to organise additional rides by U3A members etc.

A cafĂ© stop is usually organised either mid-route or at the end of the ride (individuals pay for their own refreshments) where members can chat about how they found the ride.  Remember to take a lock to keep your bike secure.  Also, all cyclists need to bring a bottle of water and an energy snack.

Safety is our top priority, and the use of a cycle helmet is essential as per the Highway Code for our group rides.  The size of the group is flexible up to 12 maximum and those numbers attending may vary dependent on weather, the season etc.   For safety we ride in smaller groups of 3 - 4.  Please carry a spare inner tube and use lights as required.  A safety checklist is sent to members along with additional information.

The group is operating at full capacity, but if you would like to be the organiser of an additional cycling group and/or if you would like to lead shorter rides of up to around 18 miles and wish to discuss how we presently operate, share working practices and Safety Notice etc, then feel free to get in touch.

If you would like to sit on a waiting list for the present group then please make contact.
